Unmet Need
Over 70M Americans lack adequate treatments for a broad array of ailments. Although the US spends over $40B on medical research every year and generates many promising discoveries, turning lab discoveries into treatments depends upon private sector investment which prioritizes profitability. As a result, markets that are not large enough often fail to receive commercial investment.
Areas of health where there is an unmet need include – (1) Pediatric and maternal health (2) Rare disorders (3) Neurodevelopmental disorders (4) Under-served areas of women’s health (5) Minority-dominated health issues (6) Mental health.
Investment Thesis
Our investment objective is to construct a diversified portfolio of companies that create significant impact in these areas of healthcare. Within these areas, we will target high-impact opportunities which may not be perceived as being large enough to generate traditional venture capital returns, but can be de-risked early to create sustainable, profitable businesses. We seek a portfolio representing all sector-relevant aspects of innovation, such as: digital diagnostics, therapeutics and medical devices. We will invest primarily within the US but will also consider allocations in Canada, Israel, Europe, and elsewhere.
